She was the most fashionable woman I've ever met and dressed to the nines for every occasion.  Her collection was vast, and her love for St. John Knits ran deep.  I strutted up and down her closet in her Ferragamo heels and furs, her Dior sunglasses resting upon my nose.  I was equally obsessed with her terry cloth rompers and Wrangler tube tops.  But my favorites were the pieces she had held onto for decades: shiny 70s disco jumpsuits, a suit she wore as a secretary in the 60s, or the pastel pink dress my great-grandmother sewed her in 1958 for her senior prom.  \n\nThrough my grandmother, I learned that clothes are much more than a way to cover our bodies.  The way we choose to adorn ourselves is a way to express our art, showcase our personality, and explore our sense of whimsy.  My passion for clothes spilled into my schooling and I took courses in fashion history and design in college.  \n\nMy appreciation for vintage clothing has only grown since then, and I've come to recognize not only that every piece carries a story but also the benefits surrounding the environmental sustainability of pre-loved clothing.  I decided to share my love of vintage clothing, and do my part in helping the environment, by opening my small business, Laguna Beach Vintage. Stars like Marilyn Monroe and Ginger Rogers were photographed wearing Catalina swimwear. He worked for the likes of Balenciaga, Lanvin, and Elizabeth Arden before starting his own fashion house in the late 1960s.  De la Renta’s designs helped to shape many fashion trends, from the psychedelic kaftans of the 60s\/70s to the metallic party dresses of the 80s\/90s, earning him numerous awards over his lifetime.  In addition to clothing, de la Renta also designed accessories, and even had a line of housewares and furnishings. At the same time, clothing manufacturers saw an opportunity and began producing junior’s fashion lines.  One such company was the Epstein Garment Company of New York, who released the Teena Paige Fashions junior brand in 1944.  Teena Paige designs featured both day and evening wear, the latter being their specialty, and frequently published advertisements in Seventeen.  These were well received and the brand became quite fashionable in the 1950s. After college, Clarke moved to Hawaii where he managed both “Trader Vic’s” and “Don the Beachcomber.” In 1952, he opened the first “Waltah Clarke’s Hawaiian Shop” in Palm Springs, selling Hawaiian imports, such as muumuus and carved bowls. He met his textile designer wife, Gretchen, on a Hawaii buying trip in 1953, and she is whom we have to thank for their beautiful clothing. Gretchen updated the classic muumuu to fit current fashion trends, but always with a Hawaiian twist. Her designs are iconic and feature bold and bright prints that transport you to the islands.
