The snaps tend to come undone with movement so you can close with the belt if you so wish. The Snaps were used  instead of buttons to avoid interference of the beautiful embroidery. I could have had hook and eyes installed but I didn’t want to puncture holes in the leather. Please be aware when buying this coat that if you want to close this coat you will probably have to use the belt or have hook and eyes installed for secure closure. You can leave it as is and close with snaps that are not very strong and or tie with belt or simply leave it open.
