The roof of the house comes off so you can store spices in them. They have a rubber gasket that holds the lid\/roof on and makes it more or less airtight.\u003cbr\u003eAll in pristine condition \u003cbr\u003eThere are 24 in the collection, each with a name of a spice painted on it. And they were made by Lenox in the 80s and 90s, but are now discontinued. Each individual house is a different style and color.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEach little house is made of porcelain and painted in pretty pastel colors, with a Victorian\/European look.
