The bodice is full over the bust, fitted and boned below in the pigeon \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebreasted Gibson Girl style typical of the era. Lace insets are used for the \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003erounded yoke and standup collar as well as below the bust. The dotted net used \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efor the bust, sleeves and back is tucked and gently pleated for texture and soft \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efullness. Narrow bands of velvet define the waist area lace inset. Ruched and \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eknotted velvet is used to edge the lace yoke, and wider bands of ruched velvet \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eset off the waist. The high collar is edged in corded white finely \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewoven cotton\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSIZE: \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMeasurements reflect the current altered bodice - \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esee Condition report. The outer bodice is \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eprimarily a substantial cotton net with woven-in oval dots, with guipire (I \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethink) lace insets and velvet trim. All of these elements are dark blue. There \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eare also middle layers - lightweight pale gray silk and very lightweight sheer \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eblack gossamer silk - you can see the edge of these in one of the closeups. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e  TAGS: \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA homemade tag sewn \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003einside has these words printed in ink \"Belonged to Mrs. McQuaid. Worn about \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e1905\". \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e  CLOSURES: \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe bodice \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecloses with 18 metal hooks \u0026amp; eyes down the back. There are three larger \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ehooks that the back bottom edge, most likely used to secure the bodice to the \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eundergarment or skirt. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e  CONDITION: \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA former owner \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eenlarged this by adding a 3\" strip of dark blue velvet down the full length of \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe back - it's a little darker than the original velvet and reflects light \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esomewhat differently. They also added a vee-shaped insert to the inner lower \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esleeve cuffs to make it easier to get hands in and out. The outer fabrics are \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esturdy and generally intact - no issues noted with the velvet, only a few \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eisolated bridal breaks in the lace. I found a few holes in the dotted net, most \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eof them near seams and either subtle or repairable - see closeup of the largest, \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewhich is at the bottom of the left sideseam where it is mostly covered by the \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003evelvet waistband. There was originally a layer of sheer gossamer cream silk sewn \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eto the inside of the lace yoke - only remnants remain as seen in closeup, but \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecan be easily removed without affecting wearability. The middle layer of black \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003egossamer has deteriorated inside the sleeves and can be seen looking cloudy \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethrough the net in some areas - see closeup. I see a single brown stain visible \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eon the white inner fabric on the upper left side of the chest - see closeup. The \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003einside of bodice has multiple pinpoint brownish spots, mostly near the upper \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eleft - they feel like they're on the surface and do not show on the outside of \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe garment.
